Vasectomy
In Glens Falls, NY

Procedure & Resources

The Vasectomy Procedure

There are several techniques used to perform vasectomies, including no-scalpel methods and different approaches to sealing the vas deferens (such as cauterization, clips, or sutures). While the specific technique may vary, all methods share the same goal: creating a safe, permanent disruption in the vas deferens so that sperm cannot mix with semen.

A vasectomy is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. Recovery is usually quick, with most men returning to light activity within a few days. We provide detailed aftercare instructions and follow-up to ensure proper healing.

What to Expect After Vasectomy

It is important to know that sterility is not immediate. After a vasectomy, sperm may remain in the semen for several weeks and multiple ejaculations are required to clear them. Recommendations involve waiting about 8–12 weeks and achieving at least 20 ejaculations before performing a semen analysis. We perform a follow-up semen analysis to confirm that no sperm are present before you can rely on the vasectomy for birth control.

Most men experience little to no long-term complications, and vasectomy does not affect testosterone levels, erections, or sexual performance.
